The 2013 Tacoma Highland Games is quickly approaching. Each day we receive vendor and clan applications in the mail. Contracts are signed. E-mails are answered. The website and Facebook page are updated. Policies are reviewed and participating organizations confirmed. The weatherman has been notified! Volunteers continue to distribute posters and brochures with advertising underway with local, state and national publications.
As part of the 2012-2013 fundraising plan developed by attorney Stephanie Gilfeather, our volunteer legal representative, on-line corporate sponsorship forms were developed to help offset the continual increase in operating expenses. Donors may support the Games by sponsoring hospitality, the entertainment stage, the dancing stage, clan tents, hospitality or the shuttle service. Special signs and recognition will acknowledge each donor. Two recent events provided exciting networking opportunities with local organizations. First, we enjoyed featuring four (field) heavy event athletes at the January Let’s Play event at the Tacoma Dome. Not only did our athletes demonstrate their skills, including the caber toss, but they were willing to help promote our Games with a very large audience. Secondly, Grazing in Graham was an after-hours event held by the Graham Business Association. It allowed us to promote the Games within the South Pierce County community. Our kilted presence was well received! |
The board of directors and key volunteers continue to be committed to: (1) offering a “family friendly” event, (2) writing grants for specific purposes, (3) building the membership base, (4) recruiting sponsorships, (5) expanding the volunteer pool, and (6) using the 2013 Lodging Tax Grant wisely.
Finally, I encourage everyone to visit www.TacomaGames.org for information on how to become a volunteer and how to help support the Games with your donations. The Tacoma Highland Games Association is a volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All gifts are tax deductible. —Diana Kildow, President Upcoming Games in our Region |
