The Definition of Tradition
The definition of Tradition is a belief or behavior passed down within a group or society with symbolic meaning or special significance with origins in the past. The word tradition comes from the Latin verb tradere which means to transmit, to hand over, to give for safekeeping. Sometimes tradition can include socially meaningful clothing and is often found in traditional music, dance, and athletic games. Traditions are thought to be ancient and deeply important to a group or society and transmitted through time; taught by one generation to the next. It is said that it takes two transmissions to happen over three generations for a practice, belief, or object to be considered traditional.

The Future is Bright!
We’re in 2022 and planning is in progress for the Tacoma Highland Games on June 25! Save the date! We continue to watch Covid regulations for any updates that would prevent us from moving forward but at this time we are doing just that. We’re ramping up planning to ensure that we can bring you the best games possible after a two year hiatus, but we can always use your help. Please consider sharing your interests and talents by volunteering for one of the many committees needed to plan and hold the games. If volunteering is not for you, consider becoming a member or making a financial donation.

Announcing: 2021 THGA Virtual Mini Games
The Tacoma Highland Games Association Board is proud to announce the 2021 THGA Virtual Mini Games. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the cancelling of the 2021 Tacoma Highland Games, we decided to continue on from 2020 with the Virtual Mini Games!
We want to offer everybody a way enjoy and engage with the community with a stripped down event online. The Virtual Mini Games is set to air on the Tacoma Highland Games Association YouTube channel on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11am PT.
